Roy Osborne (1948-)
Chromotopia 18 (Per Saltire) (2012)
Acrylic paint on canvas
79.5 x 79.5 cm
A warm, gridded Chromotopia work built from horizontal bands and repeated circular forms. Reds, pinks, yellows, olives and pale blues overlap in a carefully staged rhythm, creating the sense of transparent layers passing through one another.
The pattern is controlled and decorative, but the shifting circles keep it visually active. It is a strong example of Osborne’s interest in colour interaction, optical ambiguity and repeated forms within a square format.
