Roy Osborne (1948-)
Crossways Study III: Turquoise Mask (2011-12)
Acrylic paint on canvas
76 x 76 cm
A graphic turquoise-ground composition with repeated circular and half-circular forms in red, olive, pink and blue. The forms sit in horizontal bands, creating a clear rhythm across the surface while also giving the impression of shapes moving in and out of alignment.
Its palette is strong but not loud, with the turquoise field giving the work a bright, lucid quality. The painting has a distinctive mid-century graphic feel while remaining firmly within Osborne’s language of optical structure and colour division.
