Roy Osborne (1948-)
Flying Colours I (Quadrille IV) (2011-14)
Acrylic paint on canvas
91.5 x 91.5 cm
A complex Flying Colours composition in which soft-edged curved bands float over a finely striped ground. Blues, greens, oranges and reds move through the painting in broad sweeping arcs, creating a sense of layered motion and optical depth.
The work feels both vibrant and atmospheric. The repeated vertical background gives it rhythm, while the larger curved sections sit forward, almost like fragments passing across the surface.
