Roy Osborne is a British painter, educator, historian and writer on colour whose work explores geometry, symmetry, optical rhythm and colour interaction through carefully balanced abstract compositions.
Alongside a long exhibiting career in Britain and abroad, Osborne has lectured and taught internationally on colour theory and visual perception, and has published extensively on the subject, including studies of Renaissance colour symbolism and the relationship between light, pigments and perception.
Working primarily within square formats, Osborne builds compositions from curved and linear divisions that create rhythm, movement and spatial ambiguity while retaining a strong sense of order and clarity. His paintings draw on decades of study into colour harmony, contour, transparency and formal balance.
The works selected by Space Eclectic span several important series, including Bends, Compass, Flying Colours, Chromotopia and Crossways. Though abstract, the paintings possess a strong architectural and decorative presence, making them particularly effective within thoughtfully designed interiors.
Osborne’s work has been exhibited widely and is held in both private and public collections.
